We are fishing the Inside Passage of Alaska off of Prince of Wales Island. It is like a big lake.
While visiting us, you will have all the comforts of home in our gorgeous cabins set in the hills of Thorne Bay. Plenty of trophy black bear and deer hunting available to do when you aren't ocean fishing, and miles of different rivers for you fly fishing enthusiasts.

We have world-class salmon and halibut fishing with lots of other bottom fish being caught. We have one of the largest numbers of black bear and Sitka Blacktail deer in the world to hunt, and miles of river fishing. Our accommodations are second to none and you will be treated like family here at Thorne Bay Lodge. The only guiding we do is for the halibut and salmon fishing on the ocean. While you are with us you will have a vehicle of ours to do all your hunting, fishing or sightseeing here on the Island.
Alaska Halibut Fishing
We have world-class halibut fishing here off of Prince of Wales and what makes it so unique is that we are fishing on the Inside Passage side of the Island. It is like fishing on a lake. You don't have to worry about the big rollers like you do when fishing on the ocean side. Fishing in 250 feet of water and we are only using about 16 oz. of lead. Everyone can do it. We are catching halibut June through August with lots of fish from 25 - 40 pounds (the good eating ones) but rest assure there are plenty of the monsters to fight.
Alaska Salmon Fishing
All five species of salmon can be caught off of Prince of Wales Island. The King salmon are running off and on from June through August. The Pinks are getting caught in July and August. The end of July through August, we are catching lots of silver salmon or Coho along with some chum salmon. We may be trolling or chumming for these salmon, but however we are fishing, it sure adds a fun day of fishing.
Alaska River Fishing
Prince of Wales Island has miles of rivers to fish. Light line fishing is very popular. They say it is a fly fisherman's paradise and I believe it. In the spring the rivers are full of steelhead, and August and September the rivers are full of salmon. And all year long you have trout fishing that is unbelievable.
Hunting for Black Bear and Sitka Blacktail Deer
Prince of Wales Island has the largest numbers of black bear and Sitka Blacktail deer in the world. May and June is the popular spring black bear hunting. Then in September it opens up again and the fall hunts are awesome. Hunters come from all over the world for a chance at these big bruins. Also, the Sitka Blacktail deer are everywhere. These little trophies are another prize you can put on your wall.
